# Trust anchor pages

Agents check about, contact and privacy pages to decide whether a business is real.

## What it checks

The extension looks for three pages: **about**, **contact** and **privacy**. For each one it first uses a link the page actually publishes (any link on the same site whose URL or text mentions “about”, “contact” or “privacy”), then tries common paths. Links to other domains are never followed:

A page only counts if it returns a successful response with at least **500 characters** of text. Shorter pages are reported as too thin to count.

Some sites answer every path with a 200, even ones that do not exist. The extension detects this by requesting a path that cannot exist (the same one the [Agent-friendly 404s](https://labs.sitebulb.com/docs/checks/discoverability/agent-friendly-404) check uses). On those sites, a candidate page only counts if its wording is clearly different from that catch-all response, so the homepage served at `/about` is not mistaken for an about page.

## Results

| Status   | When                                                                      |

| **Warn** | At least one exists with real content, but another is missing or too thin |
| **Fail** | None of the three was found with real content                             |

## How to fix

Publish real about, contact and privacy pages, each with at least 500 characters of content, and link to them from every page, typically in the footer:

Linking them means the extension, and an agent, can find them whatever URL you use. If your site returns 200 for missing pages, fix that too: it makes these pages harder to tell apart from the catch-all.
